Met with the Social Worker :)

We met with the social worker today that will be teaching us the Deciding Together classes. She told us it is possible they may be able to do the homestudy while we take the classes. This is so exciting because that means we may be able to get the homestudy done BEFORE alan deploys! She gave us a list of some classes we need to take as well as some things we should take care of before we get the licensing done. She told us though that by April or May we should have a child in our home. That does not mean though the adoption would be finalized then. She told us about a few websites we could go to to look at photolistings for children up for adoption.

The next steps are completing the class, possibly starting the homestudy and taking the classes she told us about today.

The things I stumble upon

I was looking through some other blogs by other people tonight when I came across one about Fostering to adopt. Which is something we have considered. Anyways, after reading the blog entry I begin reading other readers comments. I must say I was very shocked at what I read. Someone actually commented how adoption was a business of kidnapping children and selling them...WOW. I am sure that there has been some young mothers out there that were coerced into giving up their child and I believe this happened more so many years ago then now, BUT everyday we see more and more children being abused and neglected. THAT is one reason for adoption. We have adoption so that the children who are given up by the parents can have a real family. Adoption is not about a person finding a child to raise, adoption is about finding a home for that child. One in which they will be loved unconditionally.

I know that along this journey people will not always be positive. That is okay. What is important is those who are. Those who provide continued support.

References recieved their paperwork!

Our references received their paperwork today. I cannot even begin to tell you how thankful I am for our friends who are being references for us. Without our friends, this process would be a lot harder. The fact that this is being completed, really makes me happier beyond words. I feel like my heart is going to bust out of my chest at any moment. You know when you feel butterflies in your stomach? I feel them in my heart. I am happy beyond words. I know this is only one step out of hundreds but one step closer is just that much closer.

Other than that, we have a bag full of books to read. We are doing our research. I actually enjoy doing this research though. Life is such an amazing miracle!

We decided

After three years of unsuccessful attempts at conceiving, Alan and I decided to adopt. It was not a choice we rushed into just because we could not have a biological child. We have talked about it several times. We have weighed out all the options and possibilities. We have done our research. Most importantly though, we have decided that it does not matter how a child is brought to us. What matters is that we become wonderful parents to a child. Every single child in this world deserves a chance and I cannot think of anything better than being the mother to give the child that chance. We both know this is going to be a long process. We also know its worth it.
